NADCA ACR

The Standard for the HVAC Inspection, Maintenance and Restoration Industry

Assessment, Cleaning, and Restoration of HVAC Systems (ACR) is an industry standard that establishes criteria for evaluating the cleanliness of HVAC system components, and for cleaning and restoring systems to a specific cleanliness level.

Highlights of the NADCA ACR:

  • Provides recommended inspection frequencies for HVAC systems.
  • Describes each component of an HVAC system.
  • Describes evaluations for contamination levels and lists the common contaminants.
  • Provides examples of strategies for containment.  
  • Defines acceptable cleaning methods and criteria for cleaning tools and equipment.
  • Addresses considerations for mold and biological contaminants.
  • Addresses considerations for the cleaning of fiber glass insulation, duct liner and duct board.
  • Provides requirements for creating service openings within HVAC systems.
  • Provides safety and health considerations for remediation workers, employees, and occupants.
  • Describes procedures for monitoring cleaning projects as they progress.
  • Lists the methods used to verify HVAC system cleanliness.

Please note: the most current version of the NADCA standard is the ACR 2006. The ACR 2012 is currently under review and slated for approval by the 2012 NADCA Annual Meeting & Exposition, March 19-22 in Puerto Rico.
